About the SMSDC “Your Value Add Council”
The Southwest Minority Supplier Development Council (SMSDC) is the minority business owner’s direct link to corporate America.
It has always been the intent of the Southwest Minority Supplier Development Council (SMSDC), an affiliate of the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) to remain focused on certifying, developing, connecting and advocating for our minority-owned businesses. Minority-owned businesses, which represent close to one-third of U.S businesses and impact the economic fabric within minority communities, are paving the way for future diverse generations to continue to grow and thrive. Last year, our over 500 certified minority businesses employed more than 34,000 people, of which 24,000 were minority. They are making significant inroads in construction, healthcare, fiber optic networks, communications, engineering and other industries that are the cornerstone of our country.
As one of 23 Regional Councils of the National Minority Supplier Development Council, the SMSDC is Corporate America’s direct link to Minority-owned businesses and actively adds value to our corporate members. When corporations bring minority vendors into their supply chain, they gain a competitive advantage. The SMSDC is positioned to reflect the needs of our Corporate Members and assist them diversify their supply chain, enabling our certified minority business enterprises to grow through positive business relationships.
Last year, the SMSDC’s Corporate Members spent more than $26 billion dollars with minority businesses. Our corporate members represent 18 different industries. Everything from advertising and automotive manufacturing, to steel production and high technology.
